A is for Arachnid

Ever since I was a kid, I've had a special relationship with spiders. I notice them, see them, find them constantly- to me, it's like they're all around, everywhere.

There are a bunch of different reasons why these eight legged wonders appeal to me so much, ranging from the obvious (their remarkable weaving skills, and incredible diversity as a family of organisms) to the arcane (the Gnostic teacher who introduced me to Buddhism believed it was a spider's resemblance to the double-dorje that caught my karma's attention). The simple reality, though, is that while I have respect and admiration for all living things, for some reason, spiders seem to me to stand out, and if there's one thing I've learned in my life, it's that if something stands out to you, you should follow it.

I'm new to the whole blogging thing, but for some reason, this seemed like a really good idea, to me, this A to Z thing, and since spiders are one of the most treasured things in the world to me, they seemed like a good place to start.

I wonder what I'll write about tomorrow...

  2. Strangely enough, I have a huge respect for spiders. We had one, many years ago, that would build a huge web right outside my front door every evening. He's spend the night catching moths and then every morning he'd gather up his web and go away....only to return that evening and do it all again. Amazing.

  4. I must admit that I am one of those who fear spiders... whenever I can, though, I try to explain my problem to them and why it is that I'd really rather not see them out and about. I'm happy to live peacefully with them, but for my own peace of mind, I need them to politely stay out of my vision. >.<

Most of the spiders I've come across have happily worked with this arrangement and haven't minded my spider-fear. In the basement of my parent's house... all I can figure is that we must have been speaking different languages because nothing ever worked. :(

Thank you for sharing you view of our eight-legged neighbors... :)
